“Symbiotic Bodies” By Justin Botz and Tom Ruiz

It has been over 50 years since J.C.R. Licklider wrote his influential essay entitled, “Man-Computer Symbiosis” and the study of peoples relationship to machines is no less fascinating.  In this piece we are interested in exploring the relationship between people and computer. We will use blob detection to track the bodies of passersby. With that data we will project an aura like image onto the windows that will react to the movement of the spectators in front of the store.  We hope this piece will facilitate the creation of moments of heightened consideration of the spectators relationship to time, space, and other viewers. When the viewer becomes aware of their effect on the public space they are invited to play, interact and consider for a moment the world around them,themselves, and their relationship to other bodies in the space.

QR Blasting Christianity

I wanted to create QR codes that will speak on my beliefs of the origin of religion. Specifically the Christian religion. This Code posted in front of Churches or architecture with similar symbolism in order to inform users at one of the possible origins of these symbols. The thought process is not to offend but to touch on the christian belief that Christianity is the only true religion. Everyone else goes to Hell. The video that it navigates to is the portion of the Zeitgeist movie speaking about religion. I appreciated the commentary on my last proposal for the Planetarium. I learned from your insight that I was being too literal and not portraying my own beliefs or content that I feel strongly about.

When I think of Astronomy and its Celestial bodies, I think of the religions that are formed from it. The stars and planets were tracked by various cultures from ancient to current and a certain spirituality was formed out of tracking the movement of these heavenly objects. The Sun as it made its cycle from winter to summer brought a new harvest and was thought that this was a gift of God.

Here I have a statue Jesus Christ replacing the seated Copernicus as a welcome to Adler's guests. It is a play off of Copernicus's Heliocentric Solar system and the Pagan belief that the Sun was their celestial Son of God. Structures of warship were erected by the Pagans based on the alignment of the Sun and its transition through its Summer Equinox. There have been claims that the story of Jesus is a representation of Pagan Beliefs. The Zeitgeist Movie - Religion

Rodin's "The Thinker" and original Statue of Copernicus

While walking through the Museum campus I saw plenty of people walk by these great sculptures, but not take the time to read their inscription or sit with them for a while. I believe that this is because their heads are filled with their own thoughts and ideas picked up from their short time @ the museum. When in proximity to the planetarium, I think that the ideas and thoughts processed  while at the planetarium should be celebrated more so then these great men that helped pioneer Chicago's intellectual society. In my case I substituted a statue of Copernicus, which in this case is quiet appropriate in this proximity, for Auguste Rodin's "The Thinker"  along with a quote on experience. This is to encourage the museum goer to be excited about what they have experienced today and to not shy away from experiences like this.
